Casmir Azubuike’s 29th-minute speculative delivery secured the maximum 3 points for Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia in their game against Kwara United of Ilorin, in the Matchday 27 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, decided at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The victory effectively ended Abia Warriors’ five-game winless streak and their first home win stretching about four matches since beating Warri Wolves 1-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium on December 21, 2025.

It was a slow start to the game by the Warriors, but they gradually got into groove as they pinned Kwara United to their own half.

The deadlock was, however, broken in the 29th minute as Casmir Azubuike’s attempted cross evaded everyone, including the Kwara United goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso and found its way into the net for what proved to be the match-winner.

The visitors came out smoking in the second half as they enjoyed most of the possessions, especially in the closing stages, but they failed to get past the defence quartet of Jibrin Faiz, Kunle Adeleke, Innocent Gabriel and skipper of the day, Emmanuel Ogbuagu.

Abia Warriors will be playing El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Sunday in their next match.

Similarly, Enyimba FC of Aba, which now has a new Head Coach, Emmanuel Gustave Deutsch, drew 1-1 with Rivers Utd of Port Harcourt at Adokie Amasirmeka Stadium, with a 28-minute goal from Abiodun Joseph.
