The tragic incident occurred at the Corps’ National Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory during preparations for the 2026 World Civil Defence Day celebration.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mourned the passing of Assistant Superintendent of Corps, Ogbodo Ene Victoria, who d!ed in an accident during a tactical simulation exercise in Abuja.

The tragic incident occurred at the Corps’ National Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory during preparations for the 2026 World Civil Defence Day celebration.

The training exercise was conducted by the NSCDC Female Strike Force and focused on a simulated rescue operation involving kidnapped school children, as part of emergency preparedness demonstrations.

According to officials, the officer sustained critical injuries during the drill and was immediately rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada.

Despite efforts by medical personnel to stabilise her condition, she was later pronounced de@d.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, described the development as a painful and shocking loss to the Corps.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased officer, her colleagues and personnel of the service nationwide.

Audi directed a high-level delegation from the NSCDC headquarters to visit the bereaved family to formally convey the organisation’s sympathy and support.

He also assured that the Corps would provide a befitting burial for the late officer and ensure that all her entitled service benefits are paid to her family in line with public service regulations.

While urging personnel to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties, the Commandant General acknowledged the risks inherent in emergency response and rescue operations.

He described the tragedy as a sobering reminder of the hazards associated with tactical training exercises.

The NSCDC leadership admitted that stricter safety protocols and improved coordination during the simulation might have prevented the accident.

Consequently, officers and personnel have been advised to strictly adhere to operational safety standards in future exercises, particularly during high-risk drills.

Authorities confirmed that internal investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence.

The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening workplace safety measures while continuing its mandate of protecting lives and critical national infrastructure across the country.
