Permit me to draw your attention to section 179 of the 1999 constitIution of the federal republic of Nigeria which states the requirement of becoming a governor in Nigeria.

Party inclusive!

Governor Godwin Obaseki alongside his deputy Philip Shuaibu dumped the APC after the party disqualified the governor from contesting the gubernatorial election under it flagship stating that there are discrepancies in the credentials of the governor.

Meanwhile Obaseki has made attempted move to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), although it has not been officially announced.

There are speculations that he is seeking a soft landing in PDP and want the party ticket unchallenged in the primary election.

One thing we shouldn’t forget is whether Obaseki or Oshiomole is right or not, our constitution does not allow a governor without a political party and we can say for now Obaseki is not a member of any political party. Therefore he’s party less.

Obaseki left APC but PDP is reluctant to accept him or make an official statement to his defection.

It is hilarious to say that in the history of Nigeria.

The only Governor in Nigeria without a Political Party is Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.

Independent Governor.

The governor made a claim that he has not moved to any political party. He cannot also be a State Governor without a political party platform unless there is a provision for an independent candidate in the constitution which questions the legality and legitimacy of his governorship.

Although Obaseki can join other political parties in Edo apart from the PDP but the truth is all other political parties only exist on party as they have no ground structure in the state.

It’s been more than 48 hours since Obaseki abandoned the APC and he is yet to join another party.

I’m sure no one can be a governor of a state in Nigeria without a political party.
