The security chief recounted how Amotekun operatives successfully rescued the minor and four other kidnapped victims after a five-day search deep into the forest.

A 2-year-old child who was severely brutalized by suspected kidnappers has been rescued by the Ondo State Command of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps.

The Commander of Ondo Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this while parading 20 suspects arrested for various crimes across the state’s 18 local government areas.

The parade, held in Akure on Monday, February 10, 2025, was attended by members of the press and other distinguished personalities.

The arrested individuals included suspected kidnappers, r@pists, and thieves.

Highlighting a recent breakthrough, the security chief recounted how Amotekun operatives successfully rescued the minor and four other kidnapped victims after a five-day search deep into the forest.

“Among the rescued individuals was a traumatised two-year-old child who had suffered severe beatings from the kidnappers. We thank God we arrived in time. The last five victims are here with us, and we were able to bring them out safely,” he said.

Adeleye also raised the alarm over the increasing influx of unknown individuals into the state, particularly in border and forested areas.

According to him, this troubling situation has contributed to a rise in criminal activities, including robbery and kidnapping.

He explained that among the arrested suspects, 14 were apprehended for offences relating to the breach of public peace.

“The agency recorded no pending enforcement cases involving land and chieftaincy matters, labour union crises, or student affairs,” he stated.

“However, one suspect was linked to an anti-grazing farmer clash, while three were arrested for kidnapping.

“Additionally, three suspects were taken into custody for r@pe.”

Those paraded included: Alimi and Eze (kidnapping); Isa Bagudu and Suleja (Rape); Uchenna (attempted murder); Yinusa (Threat to life and public nuisance); Bello, Rabiu, and Yusawu (Possession of crime-related items); Chukwu, Festus, and Abayomi (Theft of vehicles, jacks, and motorcycles); Abdullahi (Stealing of iron rods); Promise, Isaac, and Bolu (Breaking and entering); Haruna and Yaya (Malicious damage and electrical cable theft).

Adeleye revealed that investigations into 12 of the suspects have been concluded, and they will soon face trial.

He added that the remaining eight are undergoing further interrogation to uncover details about their accomplices.

Providing further insight, he stated, “Regarding the recent kidnapping incidents in Akure North, particularly around the Oke-Oge airport axis, Amotekun Corps acted swiftly, blocking all exit routes within an hour of receiving intelligence.

“Two individuals were abducted in Oke-Oge, while three were kidnapped in Oba Ile. Efforts to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims are ongoing.”

To prevent further attacks in these areas, the security agency has announced plans to establish a permanent camp near the affected locations.

“This control post, expected to become operational in the coming days, will serve as a deterrent to criminals and enhance the Corps’ response time,” he added.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment, the Amotekun Commander assured the public that Amotekun will continue working in synergy with the police, DSS, civil defence, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups to ensure peace and security across the state.
