Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has opened up on how he clashed with former teammate, Victor Moses during the 2013 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, tournament in South Africa.

Obi Mikel was speaking on his podcast about the recent on-field clash between Super Eagles attackers Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, as he also recalled his own on-field clash with Moses.

Recall that Osimhen had clashed with Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory against Mozambique at the 2025 AFCON Round of 16 encounter earlier this week.

“When we won the AFCON in 2013, Victor Moses was my roommate. Now we know Victor, when he gets the ball, he likes to go and dribble and create a chance, which was absolutely fantastic for Victor,” Obi Mikel said.

“A couple of times, he does it and squares the ball, but he wants to shoot. Then I went to him and said,
‘you have to fucking pass the ball’, he said no, and I said, you have to fucking pass the ball if somebody is pretty, more open, because we have to win here, Victor.

“It’s not about you, and we had an argument on the pitch. So after the game, he was still angry from what happened. We went into the room and for hours we slept, we didn’t speak to each other, we were walking passing each other in the room.

“We didn’t say anything to each other, and we woke up the next morning, we didn’t say anything to each other. Then, after we taught, there were much bigger things here; we spoke to each other, and we won. So these things happen, but we had to deal with it.”

Nigeria won the 2013 AFCON after beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final, thanks to Sunday Mba’s only goal of the encounter.
