Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM) and often called social media’s self-proclaimed watchdog, has shared his thoughts on the Super Eagles’ recent clash with DR Congo.
The encounter was fiercely contested, but Nigeria ultimately fell short in a penalty shoot-out.
VDM criticised the team, highlighting that while many players excel at their club level, they often struggle to deliver for the national team. He contrasted this with players from other countries, who perform strongly both for their clubs and their national squads.
He further claimed that the Super Eagles have shown little genuine progress since 1974, almost 50 years ago.
In his commentary, VDM expressed that he had anticipated the outcome of the match. However, he praised goalkeeper Kingsley Nwabali for his efforts, noting that despite multiple attempts to salvage the game, the team could not secure a win.
VDM pointed out that the squad lacked the determination and drive necessary to succeed against DR Congo. He also suggested that coaching decisions, including the substitution of striker Victor Osimhen, contributed to the team’s shortcomings.
