A grandmother in Benin City has been arrested for subjecting her young granddaughter to a horrifying punishment after the child ate a pack of instant noodles without permission.

According to reports, the hungry girl had consumed the Indomie noodles against her grandmother’s orders. In a shocking act of discipline, the elderly woman allegedly forced the child’s hands onto a lit gas stove, inflicting serious burns.

The brutal incident, which occurred in a residential area of the city, sparked public outrage after a concerned witness reported the matter to the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs.

Acting swiftly, officials from the ministry rescued the child and handed the suspect over to the authorities. The injured girl was immediately rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she is receiving treatment for the severe injuries.

The Ministry of Women Affairs condemned the act, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on child abuse and warning that anyone who inflicts harm on minors will face the full weight of the law.

The case is currently under investigation, and authorities have assured the public that justice will be served.
