Former international, Yakubu Aiyegbeni says over-reliance on Victor Osimhen cost the Super Eagles a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Osimhen netted a hat-trick against Gabon to help the Super Eagles secure a place in the final of African playoffs.
The Galatasaray striker was substituted during half time of Nigeria’s final defeat to Democratic Republic of Congo, which affected the team’s performance.
The Super Eagles have also never lost a game when Osimhen scored or provided an assist.
Aiyegbeni blasted the other strikers for not living up to expectations.
“We have like four other strikers, but only one delivers. Only one plays like a madman on the pitch. He’s aggressive and livid when things go wrong,” Aiyegbeni said on the Home Turf podcast.
“We only have Osimhen. I think the rest are just happy to be in the national team.”
