The Yobe State Police Command has arrested one Mika’ilu Abdulkarim, of Tsirma Village, Jigawa State, for allegedly def!ling an 8-year-old girl, Hafsat Babagana, of Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday said the suspect allegedly lured the minor, who is of unsound mind, with a promise of N500 and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her at Garin Alkali Market.
“Police operatives from Garin Alkali Division swiftly arrested the suspect following a report by the victim’s father. Both suspect and victim were taken to the Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a, for medical examination,” the statement read.
“The case has been transferred to the State CID, Damaturu, for further investigation, and the suspect will be charged to court thereafter.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado psc, fdc condemned the act and urged parents to remain vigilant while calling on communities to support efforts against sexual and gender-based violence.”
