The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to a cult-related k!lling in Owo, within Owo Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Kazeem, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, in Akure. He explained that the arrest followed a distress call received on December 14, 2025, about a violent incident involving suspected cultists at Shine Villa, Opomulero Street, Owo.

“Upon receipt of the information, it was alleged that suspected members of a cult group forcefully gained entry into the premises and attacked one Ayodele Peter, male, aged 25.

“This prompted the immediate deployment of operatives of the division, supported by intelligence-led policing and a swift tactical response to the scene.

“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where he was later confirmed dead,” Kazeem said.

According to him, police immediately launched a coordinated manhunt for those responsible, which resulted in the arrest of one suspect connected to the incident.

“Meanwhile, a coordinated manhunt was launched for the perpetrators which led to the arrest of one suspect in connection with the incident.

“The suspect has made useful statements and presently in custody while concerted efforts are ongoing to apprehend others at large,” he added.

Kazeem noted that the Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their prompt and decisive action, describing their response as evidence of the command’s improved operational readiness.

He also appealed to residents to stay alert, work closely with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that public cooperation remains essential to ensuring a safer society.
