The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of popular singer Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy.

In a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for further investigation.

“The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy,” Oluseyi said.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”

News of the singer’s death broke on Sunday after disturbing videos showing his body being conveyed to a mortuary surfaced online, sparking widespread grief and speculation.

In a separate video, an unidentified associate attempted to address the rumours, stating that the singer had been battling a health issue before his death.

“Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the man said.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy gained popularity in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s ‘If’. He later released songs including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, and Lowkey.

The late singer welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024. Police say investigations are ongoing and updates will be provided.
