The Edo State Police Command has arrested a member of the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) for shooting his colleague, Cyril Igiebor, to d£ath during a burial ceremony in the state
It was gathered that the incident happened at Eheneden Lane, off Ehenede Street, off Ekehuan Road, Uzebu Quarters in Benin City on October 21, 2023.
The victim was among a team of vigilante members contracted to provide security during a service of songs organized for a deceased woman.
It was further gathered that the vigilante team allegedly engaged in sporadic shooting apparently to announce their presence when the incident happened.
Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident said the suspect had been arrested.
Chidi said on October 21, Evbuotubu divisional police station received a distress call that one Cyril Igiebor, a member of the Edo state security network was shot by his colleague, one Moses Asemu, 47.
He said the police mobilized to the scene and rushed him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
He said the suspect was arrested and one single locally made gun was recovered from him, adding that investigation is ongoing.
