Police have announced that they have launched an investigation into a gun threat made against a Premier League star player.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie has been named as the Premier League player allegedly threatened with a gun by a football agent in September. The story first emerged in Italian media on Tuesday, leading Spurs to release a statement confirming they have been offering full support to the full-back since the incident.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the event. The situation coincides with Udogie’s recent change of representation, as he has joined Elite Project Group, the same agency that represents Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, Alex Iwobi, Jamie Gittens, and Romeo Lavia.

Reports suggest that Udogie’s switch to a new agency was initially aimed at facilitating a new contract with Tottenham, where he has established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back. However, there is now speculation that the move may also have been influenced by the traumatic experience he endured in London.

Alongside Tottenham’s statement, the Metropolitan Police also issued an official update: “Police were called at 23:14hrs on Saturday, 6 September, to reports that a man in his 20s had been threatened with a firearm. Officers spoke with the victim, and during the course of the investigation, it was also reported that another man in his 20s had allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same suspect. No injuries were reported in either case. A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 8 September, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent, blackmail, and driving without a licence. He has been bailed while enquiries continue.”

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather further details surrounding the case.
