The Bauchi State Police Command has recovered a cache of prohibited firearms in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, said the AK47 rifles, AK49 rifle, and nine empty magazines were found hidden in a polythene bag.

“In its relentless effort to mop up illegal firearms with the view to maintain public security and safety, the command through its intelligence gathering initiatives has recovered a cache of firearms hidden underground,” the statement read.

“The reliable and timely information reaching the command’s disposals revealed that a suspicious polythene bag was sighted near River Chika-Chika, about 200m away from the main road along Gida-Dubu quarters in Ningi local government Area of Bauchi state.

“Upon receiving the report, the operatives attached to Ningi Police Divisional Headquarters led by the Divisional Police Officer cordoned the area and recovered the following assorted firearms: two (3) AK47 riffles, one (1) AK49 riffle, nine (9) empty magazines

“While commending the officers, the commissioner of Police CP Auwal Mohammed Musa, psc has urged the operatives to sustain the intelligence-led policing in a bid to achieve the objectives of the command.

“The CP also charged citizens to see policing, communal safety, and security as a joint mandate with the Police. In so doing, they should demonstrate more sensitivity to the issue of crime prevention and offer useful criminal information that will aid the police in keeping them safe

“The wider the trust and information-sharing gap between the Police and the citizens, the more we as a people inadvertently empower criminal elements to succeed in their evil plan to threaten our value for peace and security.”
