The Nigeria Police Force, Yobe State Command, said its operatives have rescued a toddler from a kidnappers’ den and arrested the kidnappers’ gang leader.

This was disclosed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 12.

According to the statement, the kidnapper invaded Bungai village, Buni Yadi, Gujba LGA on 12th May 2024, at about 1 pm, shooting sporadically, before forcefully whisking away the toddler, Adamu Sani, aged 3 years old to an unknown destination.

“In the course of intensive intelligent led operations in collaboration with vigilante group, the kidnappers’ den was discovered in Buni Yadi town and aggressively raided the enclave, where the gang leader, one Yau Usman was arrested in the custody of the toddler, whilst other syndicate members fled as the command is in prompt pursuit”, the statement added.

It said the rescued victim was taken to the hospital for medical checkups before reuniting him with his parents while the suspect has been relocated to the state CID for discrete investigation, swift arrest of the fleeing culprits, and subsequent prosecution.

“In this regard, the Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, enjoined members of the public to remain proactive, vigilant and report suspicious movements of criminal elements, criminals identified hideout and miscreants peddling crime to the nearest police station”, the statement further appealed.
