Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, has said that forward Gonzalo Garcia reminds him of the club’s legend, Raul.

Alonso spoke following Real Madrid’s FIFA Club World Cup 3-0 win against RB Salzburg in the early hours of Friday.

Garcia was on target as he scored Madrid’s third goal against the Austrian side.

Speaking at his post-match interview, Alonso said he was not surprised by Garcia’s brilliant performance against Salzburg.

“Gonzalo Garcia reminds me of Raul, honestly,” Alonso said.

“Did I know Gonzalo? Yes, of course, I know him very well. I followed Castilla really closely. I’m not surprised at all.”

Garcia will now hope to lead Real Madrid to victory when they face Juventus in their next game in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old was promoted to Real Madrid’s senior team from Castilla in 2023.
