Real Madrid has been hit with another injury blow, as Dani Carvajal will be out for approximately four weeks ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool.
The Spanish full-back was already suspended for the Anfield clash following a red card he picked up in their opening game against Marseille. Carvajal was withdrawn on the hour mark during Saturday’s humiliating 5-2 Madrid derby defeat to Atletico which he rule him until after the international break.
Real Madrid’s medical statement read as follows;
“Following tests carried out today on Dani Carvajal by Real Madrid’s medical department, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the soleus muscle in his right leg. His progress will be monitored.”
The problems at right-back for Xabi Alonso have been compounded with former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold sidelined for up to six weeks.
However, Real Madrid and Liverpool will hope to return to winning ways after both sides were defeated in their league games against Atlético Madrid and Crystal Palace respectively.
It was a bad game, we didn’t play well either collectively or under pressure, we weren’t at the level we should have been.
What did Alonso say after the game against Atlético Madrid?
He said,
“We’re in a building phase, today is our first defeat, and we have to draw conclusions from what happened, but there are no excuses, we’re hurt, it’s a derby, and a deserved defeat. We weren’t on our game, we were lacking a gear, and the defeat hurts.”
However, Real Madrid supporters will hope both players will return to fitness sooner than expected.
