A wrestling match in Kentucky took a frightening turn Thursday night when a referee suffered a medical emergency after taking a heavy blow inside the ring during a live bout.

The incident occurred during a “four corners of chaos” match when wrestler Brendan Balling climbed to the top rope preparing to attack opponent Tony Evans. Evans reportedly grabbed the referee and pushed him into Balling’s path, causing the official to fall hard onto the mat.

The referee, identified as Dallas Edwards, struck his head during the collision. Balling initially checked on Edwards, but the match briefly continued even as the referee remained on the canvas.

Witnesses said the situation quickly became alarming when Edwards began convulsing in the ring. At one point, Evans dragged him toward a corner of the ring to move him out of the action before the match was eventually stopped.

Following the incident, Edwards’ girlfriend posted an update on social media confirming that he had been taken to hospital and was under medical observation.

She wrote: “I am not going to provide much more information at this time except to the parties who already know, but last night resulted in a brain injury that is being monitored and will continue to be monitored by doctors here.” Balling later expressed concern for the referee, describing him as a respected figure within Ohio Valley Wrestling.

He said: “One of the best guys I’ve been able to meet during my time at OVW.” Balling added: “Obvious accident, but can’t help but feel horrible about everything. Dallas will be back and better than ever and so will I.”

Despite the incident, Ohio Valley Wrestling is expected to continue its scheduled programming, with the promotion set to return to action on Sunday.
