The first-choice goalkeeper of Chelsea Football Club Robert Sanchez has apologised to the club’s supporters following the red card incident against Manchester United.
The Spaniard was shown a red card in the fifth minute for a challenge on Bryan Mbeumo just outside the penalty area, denying a clear goalscoring opportunity and leaving the Blues with ten men for almost the entire match.
He wrote on his official Instagram account after the match,
“On me today guys, big sorry for that, team put a massive effort in the second half but couldn’t get there.”
The dismissal saw Sanchez become the earliest Chelsea player ever to be sent off in a Premier League game. Only two other goalkeepers in the competition’s history have been sent off earlier.
The club’s legend, Petr Cech was also sent off in the past when he fouled a Wigan player which led to a penalty in the Premier League.
How many games will Robert Sanchez miss for Chelsea?
He will miss Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Lincoln City but is expected to return for next weekend’s Premier League game against his former club Brighton.
Chelsea are currently with just eight points in their first five games of the season.
