A man from KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa has allegedly been extorted of R70,000 by a woman posing as an escort after he declined her services.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the man had contacted the woman by phone last Friday, August 1, to inquire about her services but changed his mind and decided not to proceed with the booking. Shortly after ending the call, he began receiving threatening messages from the woman, who demanded a “time-wasting fee.”

“The extortionist forwarded him pictures from his social media accounts and threatened to contact his family and inform them he attempted to solicit the services of an escort,” said RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram.

Despite initially refusing to pay, the man eventually transferred R70,000 across three different bank accounts provided by the woman.

“The client [contacted] RUSA on Monday, August 4, after he received demands for further payment of R25,000,” Balram added. Balram confirmed that the man’s bank accounts had been depleted. Authorities are now investigating the incident.
