Former Celtic forward, Frank McAvennie, says Leon Balogun deserves a regular playing berth in Rangers’ team following his impressive display in the club’s Scottish Cup win over Hearts last weekend.

Balogun was handed his first start by Rangers manager, Philippe Clement since February in the 2-0 win.

The former Super Eagles defender justified the manager’s faith by putting up a solid defensive display in the encounter.

McAvennie insisted that Balogun must keep his spot in Rangers’ backline in the remaining fixtures this season.

“Balogun played very well against Hearts. I don’t know what’s happened to Goldson, whether he’s been found out or if Clement is giving him a break,” he told Football Insider.

“I think that Rangers fans will be frustrated if Goldson comes straight back in after Balogun’s performance now.

“Balogun was amazing, along with John Souttar.”
