UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin has said that the refereeing scandal facing Barcelona, is one of the most serious situations he has ever seen in football.

European football’s governing body has already opened an investigation into alleged payments Barca made to the former vice president of Spain’s refereeing committee, Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.

Barca paid over €7 million to Negreira from 2001 to 2018.

The Catalan club have insisted they were purchasing “technical reports on refereeing” and not buying match officials or influence.

“The situation is extremely serious. It is so serious that, in my opinion, it is one of the most serious [situations] in football that I have ever seen,” Ceferin told Ekipa on Monday.
