Nigerian singer Waje has finally addressed long-standing rumours about a romantic relationship with rapper M.I Abaga, explaining that their chemistry was simply artistic — not romantic.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Waje said the speculation started after their collaboration on the hit love song “One Naira.”

According to her, the rollout and emotional tone of the track made people assume they were lovers, but in reality, it was all part of the storytelling.

“Because of the rollout and romantic theme of my song with M.I, ‘One Naira,’ a lot of people speculated that we were dating. But we never dated. We were just friends who wanted to tell a great love story through music,” she said.

Waje also revealed that M.I’s then-girlfriend was actually the one who did the voice-over on the track, not her.

The singer further shared that, at this stage in her life, she values genuine connection and would not settle for an unsuccessful partner just for companionship.
