Veteran Yoruba actress, Lola Idije, has opened up about the realities of raising children alone.

She noted that being a single parent is one of the toughest battles a woman can face, especially in a society where support is often scarce.

According to her, many people do not understand the weight of responsibility that falls on a single mother, from paying school fees to providing daily meals.

She said friends and relatives often make promises but fail to show up when it truly matters.

Lola Idije emphasised that women in this position are left to carry heavy burdens alone, yet they still find the strength to keep going for the sake of their children.

Men, trust and stereotypes

The actress also criticised the way men approach women, particularly actresses. She said many men are unserious, sometimes going as far as placing bets on who can win a woman over.

She added that actresses often face disrespect, with some men believing they can be easily bought with money, sometimes as little as ₦500,000. She described this mindset as both degrading and hurtful.

In her words, women need to be extremely careful with trust because betrayal usually comes from those expected to help. She cautioned that it is better to remain guarded than to be misled.

Pushing through despite challenges

Despite the obstacles, Lola Idije maintained that single mothers continue to push forward for the well-being of their children. She described their resilience as a reflection of strength and sacrifice.

She pointed out that while society often judges women harshly, especially those in entertainment, their determination to survive and succeed remains unbroken.

The actress concluded by reminding women that life may not be easy, but with determination and faith, they can overcome the toughest situations and raise their children successfully.
