A throwback clip of singer Adeshina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy, has resurfaced online, offering insight into his early career and the reasons behind his cover of Davido’s hit track.

The vintage interview came to light amid circulating rumours of Destiny Boy’s reported death, which spread on Sunday, January 18, 2026, sparking concern among fans and supporters.

In the 2020 interview with Gbajumo TV, a 16-year-old Destiny Boy reflected on his rise to fame and his musical journey. He shared that he had been passionate about singing from a young age, but his big break came after recording a Fuji-style rendition of Davido’s viral hit, IF.

He credited the cover with bringing him into the public eye and helping his unique sound reach a broader audience.

When questioned about whether he created the cover to get signed by Davido Music Worldwide, Destiny Boy clarified that his choice was not motivated by a desire for a record deal. Instead, he explained that he was simply following a popular trend in music at the time.

He noted that the song was topping charts, and he wanted to engage listeners by presenting a familiar hit in his own style.

Destiny Boy also discussed his preference for the Afro-Fuji genre, revealing that his upbringing played a significant role in shaping his musical taste. He credited his father for introducing him to music that inspired his sound and mentioned legendary Fuji artists such as Pasuma, King Saheed Osupa, and Wasiu Ayinde Marshal as major influences on his artistry.
