Nigerian music executive, Soso Soberekon, a close friend of singer Davido, has sparked conversation online with his birthday gesture to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
To mark her upcoming 65th birthday, Soberekon transferred ₦100,000 to the First Lady and shared a screenshot of the debit alert as proof of payment. Alongside the post, he wrote: “Happy birthday to our 1st Lady.”
His action follows Oluremi Tinubu’s earlier appeal for well-wishers to support her initiative instead of sending birthday gifts or newspaper messages. She requested that all donations be directed into a designated account to help fund a National Library project.
The First Lady, who turns 65 on Sunday, September 21, 2025, explained that she intends to spend the day quietly, dedicating it to God’s faithfulness in her life. She emphasized that her choice was driven by her passion for education.
Nonetheless, the call for financial contributions has triggered mixed reactions among Nigerians, with many debating the appropriateness of such a request.
A screenshot of Soberekon’s transfer to Oluremi Tinubu has since made the rounds online, fueling further discussions.
