South African authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the sudden passing of Nigerian content creator Nwobu Odira.
The comedian’s death on Sunday, November 23, has sparked widespread concern and questions in Nigeria.
Officials noted that Odira’s case automatically qualifies for a formal inquiry under South African law, which mandates investigations for young individuals who die unexpectedly outside a hospital or without a known serious medical condition.
In a widely shared video, Odira’s companion, known as Daddy Billy, recounted the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.
He revealed that Odira had experienced a serious health episode three days prior. Billy explained:
“His heart was racing so fast, you could even see it.”
Billy said they rushed Odira to a pharmacy, where his blood pressure measured 171. The pharmacist warned that he was at risk of a stroke. While medication helped stabilize him temporarily, the improvement did not last.
On Sunday, the day Odira went out with friends, he may have missed his blood pressure medication. Billy shared:
“He began feeling weak… he couldn’t walk far.”
Later that evening, a distressing call came in: Odira was unable to move.
The delay in medical attention has fueled online discussions. However, Billy pointed out that South African law restricts civilians from moving an unresponsive person without proper medical authorization.
“You can’t just put someone who appears lifeless into a car here,” he said.
