Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo has made a case for her colleague, Aremu Afolayan, over his apology.
Newsunplug reported that Afolayan, in a viral clip, said President Tinubu once helped his business during a period when the United Arab Emirates imposed visa restrictions on Nigerians. The actor, in a bid to praise the president, appeared unbothered by the country’s hardships, which infuriated netizens.
Following the backlash, Aremu tendered an apology on Instagram, explaining that his statement had been misunderstood. He said the situation in Nigeria is very serious, adding that insecurity has reached an alarming level, and expressed regret over his statement.
Making a case for him, Okeowo asserted that the actor is sincerely sorry and remorseful. She said that her colleague understands that what he said didn’t sit well with many and took responsibility.

“Aremu is sincerely sorry.
Initially, when I saw his apology video, I wanted to laugh because he’s naturally fun, but by the end, I saw a man who was truly remorseful and sober.
He understands that what he said did not sit well with many of us, and he takes responsibility. Yoruba ni ti elese bati mo ese e ni ese kii pe lori ikunle, Ẹ̀dákùn Ẹ̀dáríjì!
According to him, there was no intention to hurt Nigerians, but he acknowledges and apologises that it came across that way.
He has reflected deeply and recognises the weight of his words. Please let’s forgive and stop the curses! Mofi Ikunle abiyamo Bewa
