Football icon, Lionel Messi, has regretted the way he left Barcelona in August 2021.

He said it was strange feeling for him leaving the Spanish giants the way he did after spending many years at Camp Nou.

In a recent interview, Messi said his exit left a “strange feeling” in his heart, adding that he did not get to leave the way he intended to.

Messi left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain as a shock to football lovers after both parties failed to come to an agreement over a new deal.

Messi was forced to leave as a free agent when the club was surrounded by financial issues.

Messi joined PSG, who were willing to pay his wages.

The 38-year-old spent two years at Parc des Princes and left Paris in 2023.

The 2022 World Cup winner is now playing for Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami.

In an interview, Messi said, “I didn’t leave Barça as I had imagined to. I was left with a strange feeling after my departure…”

Messi left Barca during the COVID-19 pandemic when fans were not allowed into stadia and Messi lamented his unceremonious departure, adding, “I finished my final years without the fans.

“The farewell moment was also a bit strange because of the circumstances and everything surrounding it.”

Messi played his last game for the Catalans in May 2021, which they lost 2-1 to Celta Vigo in LaLiga in an empty Camp Nou.
