Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has spoken out against the rising menace of drunk driving in Lagos, following a frightening near-death experience on the city’s roads.

The footballer took to social media to recount the incident, revealing that he narrowly escaped a life-threatening encounter involving two men who were allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Onazi, the incident occurred late at night and could have ended in tragedy if not for quick reactions. Though he did not disclose the exact location, his account highlighted what he described as a growing culture of reckless driving fueled by alcohol consumption.

Visibly shaken by the experience, the former Lazio midfielder used his platform to call on the government and relevant authorities to urgently address the issue. He specifically appealed to agencies such as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to intensify enforcement and public awareness efforts.

Onazi warned that without stricter monitoring and consequences, innocent road users remain at constant risk, stressing that his experience could easily happen to anyone.

His comments have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences and calling for tougher penalties against drunk drivers in Lagos.
