A suspected burglar was lynched by an irate mob in Oke-Sokori, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, after he allegedly broke into the sales lot of an auto dealer to steal motor parts.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

The 22-year-old suspect, identified as Lekan, who was reportedly beaten severely by an angry mob, was also alleged to have stolen a generator belonging to a local tailor two weeks earlier before breaking into the Ademolake Auto Sales lot.

A security man attached to the car lot, Quadri Bankole, told The Guardian that the burglar gained entrance into the sales lot during the environmental sanitation period between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m through the small gate

The guard explained that he was sleeping when an apprentice of a vulcanizer whose shop is in front of the sales lot called him to say that a thief had broken into the lot through the small gate, which he intentionally opened for customers.

The security guard stated that he was shocked to see the burglar arrive carrying a large sack, apparently intending to pack the abandoned motor parts stored behind the dealer’s office.

He added that the suspect had sustained multiple injuries after being severely beaten by an angry mob.

“Between the hours of 9:am and 10:am, I was in the office, but I opened our small gate in case customers may come to inquire about the price of our vehicle because we are observing the Thursday environmental sanitation period. All of a sudden, I heard an apprentice of a vulcanizer in front of our garage shouted thief,” he narrated.

“I immediately went out and caught this thief at the back of our office packing some motor parts we abandoned at the back of the office; he even brought a sack with him to pack the parts.

“When I caught him and I asked him what are you looking for, he said he was looking for used water bottles. We have lost so many things in our office, like cooking gas 6kg, motor battery. He even came to the other side of this road and was caught removing their generator and was taken to OPC but was later released.” Bankole said.

Also, the vulcanizer, Sogo Olorunfemi, said that a burglar broke into the sales lot at about 9:am in the morning and started to remove some parts from the already parked cars in the sales lot.

“We don’t know him; he just broke into the building at about 9:am and was opening the already parked vehicles and also gained entrance into the office of the dealers to steal,” he said.
