Suspected kidnapper arrested after collecting N7m ransom from family of abducted Edo community leader

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, Ibrahim Yahaya Jolly, for abducting Igbinosun Evans, the leader of the Ugbogui community in Ovia South-East Local Government Area of the state.

The command spokesperson, SP Moses Joel Yamu, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, while parading five suspects arrested for various crimes in the state.

According to Yamu, the suspect was arrested after collecting a ransom of N7 million from the victim’s family.

“On 09/07/2024 at about 0930hrs Mr. Igbinosun Evans, leader of Ugbogui community was kidnapped and a ransom of seven million (7,000,000) paid for his release by the family,” the PPRO said.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, Operatives of the Command’s Intelligence Rapid Response Squad (CIRRS) tracked and arrested one Ibrahim Yahaya Jolly ‘m’ 27yrs.

“The suspect confessed to the crime and has been cooperating with the Police for the possible arrest of others at large and recovery of their arms.

“The Commissioner of Police, while appreciating the good people of Edo State, appeals for cooperation with the Police and other security agencies to rid the “Heart Beat of the Nation” of all forms of crime and criminality.

“There will be no room for criminals or criminality in the state, they should move elsewhere or the longs arms of the law will catch up with them.”
