The Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has said that his administration will not tolerate any form of misconduct from police officers.
While speaking at a police function, Disu who was sworn into office by President Tinubu today March 4, said that officers who are found culpable for any form of misconduct will be dismissed or prosecuted where necessary.
He pointed out that rank or seniority of any officer will not absorb them if such an officer is found wanting.
‘’We will enforce the rule of law and strengthen the moral authority upon which effective policing is built. Our internal accountability mechanism will be strengthened, revitalized and insulated form undue influences. The Force Provost, the Complaint Response Unit will be empowered to operate decisively, independently and without fear or favor in the investigations of misconduct.
The message must be clear. No officer is above the law. Citizens must feel safe and encouraged to report wrongdoings while officers must understand that loyalty to the force does not extend to shielding misconduct or tolerating indiscipline. Under this leadership, there will be no sacred cows. Ranks, seniority or position will offer no protection. Officers found culpable will face swift disciplinary action including dismissal or prosecution where applicable.
This administration will act fairly and firmly and transparently to deter misconduct, reinforce discipline and restore public trust in the Nigerian police” he said
