A youth leader in Plateau State has lamented that cows seem to be valued more than human lives by security operatives in the state.
He made the statement after three farmers were k!lled by men alleged to be Fulani dwellers in Plateau State.
According to the community leader, Fulanis settled on their land without their permission and have now taken to k!lling indigenes.
He added that due to the settlers who have surrounded certain parts of their community, they – the indigenes – cannot go to those areas to farm for their livelihood. He said if they venture there, they go in a group, otherwise, they would be k!lled. As he said this, he pointed to the farmers lying de@d beside him, with leaves covering their bodies.
He added that weeks earlier, two other indigenes were k!lled and nothing was done, even after he called the security agencies.
However, he said this is in contrast to how security agents acted when one cow belonging to the Fulanis was k!lled two weeks earlier.
According to him, a meeting was called and the security agents insisted that they must donate money to buy a new cow otherwise there would be consequences and they had no choice but to provide a new cow.
He then asks who would compensate them for the de@ths of their community members as Fulanis are compensated for the de@ths of their cows.
He went on to state that after each k!lling, he has to beg his community members to stay calm and desist from violence, but he might not be able to continue to ask them to turn the other cheek while they get k!lled in their own home.
