Nigerian artist Zlatan Ibile has shared insights into the difficulties he encountered with his parents while establishing himself in the music scene.

In a recent interview, Zlatan revealed that his parents were initially skeptical about the origin of his earnings, particularly after he purchased his first home in Lekki in 2019 at just 25 years old, intending it as a gift for them. They suspected the money might have come from illegal activities.

“My parents refused to live in the first house I bought in Lekki because they thought it was fraud money… I had to print my account statement to show them I am being honest,” Zlatan explained.

He also reflected on the strict nature of his upbringing, noting that even as an adult, his parents required him to live under their roof. They imposed limits on his lifestyle, including curfews and personal choices, despite his rising fame.

“They later told me that if they have to come, they will do seven days of prayers to confirm if it’s from God. When they finally agreed to move in, they gave me a condition that I would also live with them,” he added.

The singer’s story has generated discussions online, with many resonating with the challenges of strict African parenting, while others commended his parents for their guidance amid his success.
