Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel has criticized the club’s midfielders Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat following their Champions League exit on Tuesday evening.

Schmeichel believes they were ‘confused’ during their Champions League 1-0 defeat with Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.

He said Fernandes, McTominay and Amrabat did not work together as a midfield trio as they delivered a dismal performance against Bayern Munich.

Man United registered just one shot on target and struggled to create chances as Kingsley Coman’s goal sealed the win for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

“There were a lot of players who thought this was all about them today, trying to be the hero in quite a few situations where a pass would have been a better option. There were a lot of things not going right today,” Schmeichel told CBS Sports.

“It’s not nice being a Man United supporter to see that kind of performance today. I have to be honest, right from the word go I never felt there was a goal coming, never at any point, correct me if I’m wrong I don’t think we created a single chance all game.

“There is not a lot of pace in the team. You have got a little bit on the left wing, a little bit up front, but then you have got a midfield [Fernandes, McTominay and Amrabat] who seems to be confused with what their job is – some of them are pressing, some of them are not pressing, they leave that massive gap between the defenders and the front players, and it is like two linear lines. Everything seems a little bit out of sync.”
