Arsenal legend Paul Merson has urged the club to “break the bank” for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Despite Gabriel Jesus’ return to fine form in recent weeks, Merson believes Isak would “take Arsenal to the next level.”

He said: “If I was Arsenal and had the money, I’d go out and buy [Alexander] Isak. I’d break the bank for him. He’s the best of the best and takes Arsenal to another level.

“If Jesus can keep doing what he’s doing, they won’t have to [bring in a striker]. But looking at the all-round picture and next season as well, if they can get hold of Isak, who I think is the best in the business at the moment, I think that would be a massive coup for Arsenal.”
