Coventry City have completed the signing of Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, adding another Super Eagles player to their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.
The newly promoted club confirmed the permanent transfer on Monday through an announcement on their official website.
Awoniyi becomes Coventry’s latest attacking addition as they prepare for life back in the English top flight, having spent the past four seasons competing in the Premier League with Forest.
Awoniyi leaves Forest after four seasons
The 29-year-old striker made 103 appearances across all competitions for Forest, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists.
His Premier League record stands at 21 goals in 90 appearances after joining Forest from Union Berlin in 2022.
Awoniyi had previously established himself in Germany, scoring 20 goals during the 2021-22 campaign for Union Berlin, including four in the UEFA Conference League.
His time at Forest was disrupted by injuries, but the Nigerian remained an important option for the club during his four-year spell at the City Ground.
Super Eagles duo reunite at Coventry
Awoniyi’s move also means he will link up with compatriot Frank Onyeka at Coventry.
The midfielder recently completed a permanent transfer to the Sky Blues from Brentford after helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League.
The arrival of two established Nigeria internationals gives Coventry additional top-flight experience as they prepare for their first Premier League game following promotion.
Awoniyi could make his Coventry debut in their opening league fixture against Arsenal.
The match would provide an immediate test for the Nigerian forward, with Coventry facing the 2025-26 Premier League champions at the start of their campaign.
