Former Premier League and La Liga striker, Michael Owen, has said there has been some form of secretive talks going on between Real Madrid and Liverpool star, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s camp.
Owen, who represented Real Madrid and Liverpool at different times during his playing days, noted that if not for such secret meetings, the La Liga giants wouldn’t have made their interest open.
Alexander-Arnold has reportedly told the Premier League club he wants to join Real Madrid later this year.
His current deal at Anfield will expire in June and the 26-year-old has made it clear he won’t sign a new deal.
Liverpool are said to have recently rejected an offer from Real Madrid for the England international.
Owen feels there have been behind-the-scenes negotiations that could convince the right-back to join the Spanish giants.
Owen said it is a “matter of time” before the defender signs for Real Madrid.
Owen wrote on his X account, “The very fact that Real Madrid have now made their intentions clear towards signing Trent Alexander Arnold leads me to believe that it’s only a matter of time before he signs for them.
“If he was going to sign a contract extension, Madrid wouldn’t have officially made their move. Secretive talks will take place. Huge news.”
