Fenerbahçe president, Sadettin Saran, has shed light on the club’s unsuccessful attempt to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta during the January transfer window.

Saran disclosed that Atalanta favored a transfer to Atletico Madrid despite Lookman’s desire to join the Turkish Super Lig side.

Speaking to Fenerbahçe TV, Saran also revealed that he traveled to Milan to meet Lookman’s agent on December 19, and initial talks were promising.

“On December 19th, I went to Milan for Lookman and met his manager,” Saran said.

“Lookman spoke with our coach two or three times, and he wanted to come.

“Atalanta came again, asking for the [salary] guarantee. They did not want to give the transfer to us; instead, they preferred Atletico Madrid. That is how the process ended.”
