Two children have d!ed while seven others were injured in a road crash at Kere, Itori, along the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos road.

The accident involving a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA occurred at about 11 pm on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday, attributes the accident to overloading and excessive speed.

“Operatives from the FRSC Itori Unit Command carried out a rescue operation on Saturday, 31st August 2024, at Kere, Itori, following a crash that occurred at about 2300hrs,” the statement read.

“It was a single-vehicle crash involving a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA

“A total of 7 male adults, 1 male child, and 1 female child were involved in the crash. The male child and the female child were k!lled, while the others sustained various injuries

“The injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and the corpses were deposited at the morgue.

“The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed and overloading. The car was overloaded with passengers,” Okpe said.

The Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, condemned the crash, describing it as indicative of a disregard for life by the driver and passengers, who saw nothing wrong with the car being grossly overloaded.

Fasakin urged motorists to avoid overloading their vehicles with goods or passengers, as it is dangerous for the driver and other road users and contravenes traffic regulations.

He also extended his condolences to the families of the crash victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
