Six suspected cultists have been apprehended by operatives of the Nigerian Police for allegedly shooting two students of Osun State Polytechnic Iree on campus during a clash on September 8.
The confrontation, reportedly between members of the Buccaneers confraternity and rival groups, involved gun fire that left the two students injured.
Three suspects — Oluwadamilare Temitope (23), Ayodeji John (24), and Adepoju Adesoji (27) — were arrested at the scene, while another operation on September 9 led to the arrest of three more suspects: Yusuf Abeeb (24), Fatai Quadri (24), and Lateef Abiodun (23).
The state Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.
“The Anti-Cultism Unit, while on township patrol, received reports of armed cultists engaging in a shootout within the school premises. Two students were injured in the process. Acting on the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, operatives swiftly responded and arrested three suspects on the spot. Further investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects the following day,” he stated.
The command said investigations are ongoing and all suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion.
