Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe has matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the most goals scored in the group stage of a UEFA Champions League campaign.
The French player helped Real Madrid as they beat his old team, AS Monaco 6-1 at the Bernabeu stadium.
The France international star continued his amazing performance in this season’s Champions League by scoring two great goals in the first half of his team’s match against Monaco.
The 27-year-old player has scored 11 goals in the competition this season, and he did it in just six matches for Los Blancos.
Mbappe scored two goals, which put him on the same number as his hero Cristiano Ronaldo, who had 11 goals in the group stage during the 2015-16 competition.
No player has ever managed to score more goals than the Frenchman and Ronaldo during the group or league stage of the Champions League.
Mbappe scored the first goal for Los Blancos just five minutes into the game at the Bernabeu, netting after receiving a pass from Federico Valverde.
He got his second goal of the match, heading in a cross from Vinicius Jr at the far post in the 26th minute.
Real Madrid have their final league phase match against Benfica, and Mbappe could set a new record in that game.
He is also aiming to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 17 goals in a single Champions League season, considering the form he is showing this season.
