Former Premier League player Danny Murphy has said that only Paris Saint-Germain can stop Arsenal from winning the Champions League this season.
Mikel Arteta’s team have started the competition perfectly, winning all six of their games so far, and they now face a big challenge tonight when they play Inter at the San Siro.
Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich were both heavily defeated at the Emirates Stadium by Arteta’s side.
Meanwhile, the Gunners scored 11 goals in their away games against Sparta Prague, Athletic Bilbao, and Club Brugge.
Arsenal are leading the Premier League race, but Murphy does not think there is any reason they cannot achieve a special double.
PSG beat Arsenal in the semi-finals last season after two closely fought matches, and former Liverpool midfielder Murphy said the French champions are the team North London should be most worried about.
Murphy told BoyleSports: “I think if Arsenal only got the Premier League, they would accept it, but I also believe they can win the Champions League.
“It’s going to be really tough because in the Champions League, one bad game or a few things going wrong can make the difference and you can get knocked out.
“You can have a great performance and still not make it through because of penalty shootouts, poor decisions, or getting sent off.
“But watching them play as often as I have, there’s no reason they shouldn’t believe they can win it. They have destroyed Bayern Munich, which is one of the other top teams in the competition.
“They are performing better than any other team in the Premier League. I don’t think the Spanish teams are as good as they used to be. When you see how Liverpool beat Real Madrid, even when they weren’t at their best, and how Chelsea beat Barcelona.
“The only team that worries me is PSG. I think once they get everyone in good shape, like they were last season, they might have a really strong second half.
“When PSG are playing at their best, they are really hard to beat for any team. So they are likely the other main contenders with Arsenal right now because of their experience and because they won it last year.
“But you have to reach for the stars. When you’re at a major club, your goal is to win everything. I had an experience where our team won a treble at Liverpool, even though it wasn’t the real treble.
“But there was still a strong belief in the team that every time we stepped onto the pitch, we had the ability to beat anyone.
“Whether it was Barcelona in the semi-final or anyone else, we really believed in it. I think Arsenal have that belief now. They seem pretty sure of themselves and don’t seem scared at all.
“I know there was some criticism after the Liverpool match, but they had played a lot of games already, which led to some tiredness, and Liverpool really put in a good performance.”
