Former Manchester City defender, Manuel Akanji has told Arsenal they are not the best team in Europe.
He said the idea of Arsenal being the best team in Europe right now is not correct.
Akanji spoke ahead tonight’s Champions League match between Arsenal against Inter Milan.
Mikel Arteta’s team are leading the Premier League and are very close to making it to the next round of Europe’s biggest club tournament.
The Gunners have a perfect record in the Champions League this season, with six consecutive wins, including victories against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Even though Arsenal did not score in their last two league matches, which ended up as draws, they are still leading Manchester City by seven points.
The experienced Swiss player, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan, was a key member of Pep Guardiola’s teams.
Manchester City kept Arsenal from winning the Premier League title in two very close seasons.
Akanji is expected to play as Inter tries to stop Arsenal’s winning run in Europe.
The 30-year-old said that Arsenal still have a lot to show before they can be called the best team in Europe.
He told reporters ahead of the game, “They’re one of the best teams in Europe, but not the best.
“I don’t think they’re better than Atletico Madrid or Liverpool. It’ll be a good match. Have they improved? I don’t watch much football anymore.
“I have three kids at home and I already have a lot of football in my job. They definitely have a lot of strong players and they’re consistent which is key to staying in the race.
“What does it take to beat them? When facing strong teams, errors can lead to serious consequences. We need to be good at scoring goals and keep the ball well when we have it.”
Inter Milan are in a strong position to make the last 16 without having to face a two-leg play-off.
