Tottenham Hotspur boss, Antonio Conte, has said that AC Milan defeated his team 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first-leg tie on Tuesday night because the Serie A champions scored an early goal.

According to Conte, the Champions League tie at San Siro was a ‘battle’ from the start until the end of the match.

Braham Diaz’s early goal in the first half gave AC Milan a first-leg advantage against the Premier League side.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY after the match, Conte said: “This game was a battle from the start until the end. I think it was a pity to concede a goal after five minutes, we could do much better in this situation, but, after this, the game was even.

“Both teams tried to be intense, to make pressure. It was difficult for us to play, it was difficult for Milan to play.”

He added, “The Milan supporters pushed their team a lot from the start until the end. I know for the second leg, in our stadium, my expectation is to see our fans push us to try to overcome Milan.”

Conte will hope Tottenham turn things around when they host AC Milan in the return leg next month in England.
