The United Kingdom has put in place tight movement and airspace restrictions in preparation for the state visit of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu next week.
Thames Valley Police stated that these measures are part of a larger security operation, coordinated with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and other relevant partners, to safeguard dignitaries, spectators, and the general public during the visit.
Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall, of the police force’s Joint Operations Unit, highlighted that airspace restrictions represent only a portion of the overall security strategy.
“The air restrictions are just one element of our comprehensive security plan for President Tinubu’s state visit next week. Some measures will be visible, while others will remain behind the scenes,” Hall said on Wednesday.
He also emphasized the force’s extensive experience in managing royal events in the Windsor area.
“As a police force, we have long-standing expertise in securing Royal events, and a great deal of planning has gone into this visit. Our priority is to ensure that everyone attending, from dignitaries to the public, can safely enjoy this historic occasion,” he added.
Authorities further noted that Windsor Castle is already subject to permanent airspace restrictions year-round. For the upcoming visit, these restrictions will be temporarily expanded on Wednesday, March 18, to enhance security.
These measures are intended to ensure that the state visit proceeds smoothly and safely, drawing global attention to this historic diplomatic event.
