Victor Osimhen has continued to silence his critics by showing why he is one of the top three forward players in the world after his impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen took one step closer to equaling Cristiano Ronaldo’s UEFA Champions League record after he bagged a hat-trick against Ajax. This feat extended his record of scoring in consecutive Champions League games to eight, three shy of the Portugal international’s mark.
Osimhen has made a dramatic impact in the UEFA Champions League, delivering decisive performances when it matters most. In their 1-0 group stage win over Liverpool in Istanbul, Osimhen stepped up to convert a penalty in the 16th minute, sending the keeper the wrong way and securing the victory. That goal marked a historic moment: he became the first Nigerian to reach double-figures in Champions League goals, with ten to his name in the competition proper.
The brilliance didn’t stop there. Shortly afterwards, Osimhen bagged a brace in a 3-1 win over Bodø/Glimt which not only delivered back-to-back Champions League wins for Galatasaray for the first time in nearly a decade but also saw him break the club’s record for most consecutive European games with a goal.
Osimhen’s ability to deliver under pressure has reinvigorated Galatasaray’s European ambitions and sent a clear message about his quality on the biggest stage.
Victor Osimhen is now Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in UEFA club competitions with 25 goals overtaking Obafemi Martins (23). He is the current Champions League’s highest goal scorer with 6goals despite missing the first game of the competition.
