The United States government has again issued a stern warning to Nigerian politicians and elites involved in corruption, stressing that its visa ban extend to even the most “high-profile” individuals.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria issued the fresh warning in a circular released on its X handle today September 22. The American government made it clear that corrupt practices carry international consequences that cannot be shielded by political power or influence at home.

The statement, posted with the hashtag #VisaWiseTravelSmart, read:

“Did You Know Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving #USVisas. FIGHTING CORRUPTION KNOWS NO BORDERS or limits on accountability.”
