Some Nigerian football fans have reacted to the Super Eagles’ defeat against DR Congo in their 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff final on Sunday.

NEWSUNPLUG reports that the match ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, thanks to goals from Frank Onyeka and Mechak Elia.

However, DR Congo advanced to the next stage after beating Nigeria via penalty shoot-out.

Following the match, supporters took to their X accounts to share their thoughts on Nigeria’s defeat to the Leopards.

Here are some comments gathered by NEWSUNPLUG from X:

@Dawakiii, “I just unfollowed Super Eagles. No strategy, no energy, no creativity. It didn’t look like a team that carries the hopes of millions. As supporters, we always stand behind you, but what you displayed today was truly disappointing. Super Eagles embarrassed us today!”

@Abubakar_Mhmmad, “Saved from the embarrassment awaiting us, because it’s evident that you guys are not even ready yet for any World Cup.”

@Tasha, “There’s so much demonic & toxic energy all around that country right now. Don’t deserve any World Cup. Sort yourselves out. Congrats to Congo.”

@Lugard100, “I don’t even know the best counsel for the team. Bribery & Corruption and Favouritism are part of the problem of the poor output. Look beyond players playing in Europe; it’s time to look inward to the streets and the Local League. It shouldn’t be about Big names, rather, Performance.”

@PTthisboy, “At this point make t
Trump just fell in this country.”

@SegunUntd, “That’s it. That seals the deal. I’ve been a Nigeria fan for 64 years, and in all my time of being one, I’ve never seen a team this bad. I’ve had enough of it until you fix this team. I’ll be packing my bags to Somalia, where they actually know how to run a real team!”

@ini_cober22, “Una no de shame!! Carrying old players!! Simon 39, Ndidi 37, Onyekaa looks like he’s in his early 50’s, Tolu is utter shit!! Can’t control ball, how’s he even in this team? Zaidu, I know you people don collect money from most of these players!! Dead nation! Greedy leaders.”

@MikeLahoud, “Fully deserved win by Chancel Mbemba and DR Congo. They were the better team for much of that match. Lots to discuss, but another very disappointing moment in Nigerian Football.”

@NaijascoutforSE, “Thank you @thenff
For ruining our football, the appointment of Finidi George will never be forgotten.”

@ChelsOnTheRoad, “8 years with no participation, 2030 is the next chance.
Another 12-year wait… this sums up the pain of being a Nigeria fan right now.”

@kdaodu, “We don’t deserve to go to that play-off based on our performance tonight.”

@wisdom_cfc, “We have to wait for another 4 years.”
